a list of…作主语时谓语动词用单数还是用复数

问题描述

a list of…的意思是“列有……清单”“一长串的……”，如下面是从网上找到的一些例子：
a list of names 名单
a list of arrangements 一长串的安排
a list of museums and places of interest 博物馆和名胜目录
a list of names and telephone numbers 姓名和电话号码表
a list of passengers or cargo in an aircraft （飞机的）旅客名单；货物清单
a list of the books referred to in a scholarly work 参考文献目录
a list of all club members, past and present 俱乐部以往和现有所有成员的名单
如果这些东西作主语，后面的谓语动词是用单数还是用复数呢？如果从 list 来看，它是单数；如果从a list of 后面的名词来看，它是复数。如何确定？以哪个为准呢？谢谢！

▲a list of…作主语时，谓语动词通常用单数，即将其视为一个整体来考虑。如：
There is a list of all the ingredients on the label. 标签上面有一个成分表。（《牛津中阶英语词典》）
The following is a list of courses currently on offer. 以下是目前所开设课程的清单。（《牛津英语习语词典》）
The more structured a list of items is, the more the final item will tend to be a conclusion in more ways than one. 列举的词项结构越严密，最后一个词项往往也就越有可能成分多方面的结论。（夸克等《英语语法大全》）
▲但偶尔也有用复数动词的。如：
A long list of amendments have hobbled the new legislation. 一长串修正案限制了这项新立法。（《剑桥高级英语词典》第2版第1055页）

list“一览表，目录，名单，清单”是名词，常构成a list of...，其中心词是list，所以a listof...作主语时，谓语动词用单数形式。如：

A list of phonetic symbols is given in the front of the dictionary. 在词典前面给出了音标表。《简明英汉词典》
