cut down sth还是cut down on&nbsp

下面一句摘自2014高考英语北京卷阅读理解第C篇文章：
If you want to cut down on your spending, a good goal would be making morning coffee at home instead of going to a café, for example.
不理解句中为什么用cut down on，这个on是否是多余的呢？如果用on也可以的话，那cut down sth与cut down on sth有什么区别吗？谢谢！

以上三个例句可以看出，作为减少时，cut down on=cut down。只不过，cut down 是及物动词+副词的结构，所以也可是 cut sth down。而 cut down on 呢，我们一定把宾语放在介词之后。on不能说是多余，只是两者用法皆可。仅此而已，感谢你提出的问题，希望采纳。

Our advice is that the company cut down its expenses. 我们的建议是公司缩减开支。

句中的cut down its expenses 与你的句子中的 cut down on your spending 用法相当，意思也相似，你的句子中用的是 cut down on，《张道真英语用法》用的是 cut down。

cut down：动词+副词

cut down on：动词+副词+介词，无被动语态。

我认为：

cut down的含义较多，有“砍倒，杀死，减少、降低、缩减、缩小”等含义，主动语态和被动语态均可用。

cut down on的含义仅为“减少”，无被动语态。

当表示“减少”时，如果用主动语态，则两者可互换。
