“to+a/the+名词”表示极限程度的用法

问题描述

在一本书上看到：

1. “to +a +名词”（用不定冠词）可以表示极限程度，比如 to a man, to a hair, to a fault 等。

2. “to+the+名词”（用定冠词）也可以表示极限程度，比如 to the bone。

但是书上举得例子很少，而且也没说为什么，希望得到讲解。谢谢！

英语中，我们经常说：to some degree, to a large degree, to a certain degree，意思是说“达到某种程度”，to 的意思非常明确，就是“达到”表示结果。这类词组在句中一般用作状语，表示程度。比如说：to the point，“说到点子上”，就是“切题”；to the letter，“到了字母的程度”意思是说“严格按照字词”翻译或解释等。除了你说的to the bone（完全；彻底）外，常见的还有：

to the point   切题, 切中要害

to the full    充分地；完全地

to the letter    严格按照字句

to the end    到底, 始终, 到最后

to the question   对题

to the core    彻底

to the fore    在前面, 在显著地位

to the minute    恰好, 准时

to the max    最大程度地 ; 完全

to the minimum 到最低限度

to the day    恰好

to the last    直到最后

to the utmost   尽力

to the full extent  最大限度地
