though表示转折与but的区别

1. I thought he’d been drinking, though I wasn’t completely sure. 我觉得他一直在喝酒，不过不是十分肯定。 

2. The offenders were dealt with firmly though fairly. 这些违法者受到了严厉、但却是公正的处罚。

▲though 可以表示让步关系，翻译为尽管，though 也可以表示转折关系，翻译为但是。

那么 though 表示转折与 but 有何区别呢？

though 在具体语境中，确实含有两种意思。

1. 表示让步，意为“虽然; 尽管; 即使”。放在主句之前或之后均可：

Though the task was difficult, they managed to accomplish it on time.

尽管任务困难,他们仍按时完成了。

Though he's stupid, I like him nonetheless.

虽然他很笨, 我仍然喜欢他。

I don't know him well though I've known him for a long time.

我对他并不了解，虽然我认识他已经很长时间了。

It's quite pleasant today, though the wind is rather cool.

尽管风有点凉, 今天天气还是很不错的。

2. 表示转折，意为“不过，可是，然而”。一般放在主句后，引出补充说明，使语气变弱。意思相当于but，例如：

They will probably win, though no one thinks so.

他们可能会获胜，但没有人这样认为。

They're very different, though they did seem to get on well when they met.

他们大不相同, 可是见面后好像还确实相处得不错。

He'll probably say no, though it's worth asking.

他很可能会拒绝, 不过问一下有益无害。
