place,time后的定语用不用介词的问题

问题描述

有老师说place, time 后不加介词。如 a place to live，而不是 a place to live in ，那英语书上出现了 a place you have been to，此时to为何不省呢？

不及物动词作place的后置定语时，该不定式后面可以不带介词，也可以带介词。例如：
There is no place to go. / There is no place to go to. 无处可去。
I want a place to sleep in. / I want a place to sleep. 我需要个地方睡觉。

所以，a place to live 和 a place to live in 都是正确的。
在place后面的定语从句中，与谓语动词后面的介词，也可以省略。例如：
We need a place (that) we can stay for a few days. 我们需要一个可以暂几天的地方。（但不能说：We need a house we can stay for a few days.）（《牛津英语用法指南》第三版498.6）
You remember the place we had lunch?（=...the place (that) we had lunch at? 或 …the place where we had lunch?）你记得我们吃午饭的地方吗？（《牛津英语用法指南》第三版431）
Why not go out and see if there’s some place we can dance? 为什么不出去看看是否有我们可以跳舞的地方？（《柯林斯COBUILD高阶英汉双解学习词典》p.1982）
所以，a place you have been to 中的to也可以省略。
